Spring Shear

Oh guys, I have so much to share with you!

The spring shear is happening with a vengeance, and I’ve been running around the province, picking up fleeces for you guys. Not only that, but I’ve been washing fleece like crazy! I will be broadening my selection of not only raw fleeces for you this year, but washed unprepped fibre with you as well. My supply is (not so slowly) taking over my storage area, and the next month will be all about skirting, photographing, and getting those listed on the shop as quickly as I can for you.

I’ll be restocking Tunis and Suffolk, along with Bluefaced Leicester (oh you guys, these BFL fleeces are really lovely!), Jacob, Border Leicester, Dorset, Clun Forest, and several unique and beautiful crossbreeds.

Not only that, but I’ve been working away on getting batts for you guys! The batts are all 100% Alberta wools, grown right here in my home province, and cleaned and processed by myself for you to spin. I spent a portion of April making myself a wool picker from scratch which has immensely sped up the process. I’ll be debuting these batts at the Edmonton Fibre Frolic on May 25th, where I have a booth. I’m so excited to be a part of this market – I’ve been an attendee now for a few years, and it’s such a fun, vibrant event.

After the market I will be listing the batts here on the website. The focus of the shop will continue to be raw and washed/unprepped fibre, so the batts will be slightly more limited.

I’ve also been working on these hand warmers (pictured above), as a complete raw to finished project. I teased these in an earlier blog post, and I’m really excited about them. I’ve been working on a way over the past six months to bring my knitting designs and my work with local wools together more harmoniously, and this is the first step in that direction.

The resulting project will include not only the knitting pattern, but also how to spin the yarn for this project, and a dye recipe – all in one document. These hand warmers are currently in the test knitting phase, so keep your eye out closer to the end of May when the whole package will be released.
